This medication is used to treat life-threatening irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and to maintain a normal heart rate in patients who have not responded to other medications.
How to use Amiodarone Oral
Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using amiodarone and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions regarding the information, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth. It is best taken with food. However, it is more important to take amiodarone consistently, with regard to meals. Ask your pharmacist for additional information.
Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit can increase the amount of amiodarone in your bloodstream. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
This medication works best when there is a constant level of the drug in your body. To do this, take each dose exactly as prescribed at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night. Try to take each dose at the same time each day.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not stop taking this medication or change the dose without first consulting your doctor.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Rapid Ventricular Heartbeat, Atypical Ventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Fibrillation, Prevention of Ventricular Fibrillation
Amiodarone Oral may also be used to treat:
Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia, Sudden Fast Irregular Contractions of the Heart, Atrial Fibrillation, Prevention of Recurrent Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Rate Control in Atrial Fibrillation, Prevention of Post Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Heart Rate Between 100 and 130 Beats Per Minute, Atrial Fibrillation Electrically Shocked to Normal Rhythm
