Clofazimine is an antibiotic which attacks the bacteria that cause leprosy by an unknown mechanism. It is thought to interfere with the production of genetic material (DNA) in the bacteria. Clofazimine also has an anti-inflammatory action to reduce the swelling and pain associated with leprosy.
Clofazimine is used in combination with other medications, and therapy should be continued for at least two years.
